We absolutely love shining a spotlight on our stand-out paralegals. This time, we were delighted to have a chat with Anastasios, a bilingual future trainee with experience of working within the tech industry. After flourishing on a law firm placement through Flex, Anastasios is now thriving again at Summize, an innovative legal tech company. Here’s what he has to say about working through Flex Legal…
Hi Grace! Could you please introduce yourself and tell us a bit about your background?
Hello, my name is Grace Komolafe. I’m a young Nigerian woman living in Manchester in pursuit of establishing a career as a barrister. In 2021 I completed my academic requirements and am currently working within the legal field. Since finishing education, I have worked in law firms within areas such as immigration, personal injury and international corporate law. I have witnessed the practice of law within a firm and gained understanding of what running a law firm entails, whilst being a part of it. Further to this experience, I had the opportunity to shadow a judge for two days. How did you first become interested in working in law?
I first became interested in law through the different cases which I studied at university that opened up my eyes to the injustices faced regularly throughout society and recognising the impact I could have on bringing justice in these kind of situations.Could you tell us about your experience of working through Flex Legal?
My experiences working through Flex Legal have allowed me to gain experience within top law firms, but the experience has also provided me with the freedom to work jobs that are more catered to my barrister career.“Finding a paralegal role through Flex Legal was incredibly easy and fast and the entire Flex Legal team is incredibly supportive.”
Anastasios, Flex Paralegal
Where are you currently working?
I have recently started a new role at Leigh Day, a unique law firm working for people in the United Kingdom, and across the globe, who have been injured, discriminated against, or had their human rights abused. What have you found most interesting about your recent role?
What I found most interesting in my most recent role was the level of trust which the employer afforded their employees. As an employee I was given great responsibility and room to grow. What advice would you give to those looking to get into paralegal work?
The advice I would give those who are looking to get into working as paralegal is prepare to hear the word no.“Don’t be afraid to suggest improvements as a paralegal! When you enter a team, you have a fresh set of eyes and you can really understand pressure points that others might be missing.”
